5-Day Uganda Gorillas & Golden Monkeys.

Day 1: Transfer from Entebbe or Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Your journey begins with an early morning pickup and a scenic drive toward southwestern Uganda. The changing landscapes reveal vast plantations, rolling hills, and picturesque rural communities. As the road ascends into the Kigezi Highlands, often called the “Switzerland of Africa,” the cool air and dense greenery signal your approach to Bwindi. By the time you settle into your rainforest lodge, the atmosphere is serene, the forest alive with bird calls, and anticipation for the next day’s gorilla trekking fills the evening.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Morning reveals mist drifting through the towering canopy as you assemble at the ranger station for your briefing. The trek leads you through thick vegetation, ancient trees, and soft undergrowth as you follow signs of gorilla activity. When you finally encounter your assigned gorilla family, the forest grows quiet. Day 3: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

After breakfast, you leave Bwindi’s dense forest and drive along the dramatic ridges of the Kigezi highlands toward the Virunga region. The journey is incredibly scenic, with criss-crossing hills, terraced farmlands, and distant volcanic peaks shaping the horizon. By early afternoon, you arrive in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park—a smaller but strikingly beautiful protected area set beneath the towering volcanoes of Muhabura, Gahinga, and Sabyinyo. The rest of the day is spent relaxing at your lodge, enjoying the crisp mountain air and views toward the forest where the golden monkeys thrive.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking in Mgahinga

With volcanic slopes rising above you, the morning trek leads into bamboo forests where golden monkeys bounce and chatter among the branches. Their vibrant fur, expressive faces, and playful behaviour make them a delight to watch. Compared to gorilla trekking, the hike is lighter and more playful, with monkeys darting between trees, feeding on bamboo shoots, and curiously observing their visitors. Spending time with them offers a refreshing contrast to the solemn majesty of gorillas, creating a balanced and enriching primate experience. After returning to the lodge, the afternoon is yours to relax or enjoy the sweeping mountain landscapes.

Day 5: Return to Kampala or Entebbe

After breakfast, the journey back to Kampala or Entebbe begins, taking you once more through Uganda’s lush countryside and lively towns. As you descend from the highlands and approach the central region, the safari begins to settle into memory—moments with gorillas in the mist and golden monkeys in the bamboo forest remain vivid and lasting.
